Quantifying Spillover Risk with an Integrated Bat-Rabies Dynamic Modeling Framework

نویسندگان

چکیده

Vampire bat-transmitted rabies has recently become the leading cause of mortality in both humans and livestock Latin America. Evaluating risk transmission from bats to other animal species thus a priority region. An integrated bat-rabies dynamic modeling framework quantifying spillover cattle farms was developed. The model is spatially explicit calibrated state São Paulo, using real roost farm locations. Roost characteristics, as well environmental data through an ecological niche model, are used modulate transmission. Interventions aimed at reducing roosts (such bat culling or vaccination) (cattle were considered control strategies. Both interventions significantly reduce number outbreaks disease spread (based on distance source), with being better intervention. High-risk areas also identified, which can support ongoing programs, more effective interventions.

Quantifying the burden of vampire bat rabies in Peruvian livestock

BACKGROUND Knowledge of infectious disease burden is necessary to appropriately allocate resources for prevention and control. In Latin America, rabies is among the most important zoonoses for human health and agriculture, but the burden of disease attributed to its main reservoir, the common vampire bat (Desmodus rotundus), remains uncertain. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS We used questionna...

An object-oriented framework for dynamic ecosystem modeling: application for integrated risk assessment.

Ecological risk assessment requires the integration of a wide range of data on anthropogenic processes, ecological processes and on processes related to environmental fate and transport. It is a major challenge to assemble a simulation system that can successfully capture the dynamics of complex ecological systems and an even more serious challenge to be able to adapt such a simulation to shift...

An Integrated Rule Modeling Framework

This paper introduces an Integrated Rule Modeling Framework, which consists of the UML-based rule modeling tool Strelka, rule interchange format R2ML and a number of services, which facilitate the development and debugging of rule-based applications and rules for the Semantic Web. We describe how the framework can be used by software engineers and how Semantic Web rule modelers can benefit from...

Bat Rabies in Guatemala

Rabies in bats is considered enzootic throughout the New World, but few comparative data are available for most countries in the region. As part of a larger pathogen detection program, enhanced bat rabies surveillance was conducted in Guatemala, between 2009 and 2011. A total of 672 bats of 31 species were sampled and tested for rabies. The prevalence of rabies virus (RABV) detection among all ...
